Abstract
Lead is one of the main environmental contaminants that can threat living animals. Lead toxicity may affect multiple organs of animals and is associated with health deterioration. The study aimed to determination of lead levels in serum of cows kept around Sugar Cane and Pulp paper factories and impact of lead on RBC, PCV, Hb, WBC and oxidative processes in lead exposed cattle. This study was carried out on 80 female cows (1- 4 years of age) kept south and north to the Sugar Cane and Pulp paper factories in Edfu district, Aswan governorate. Clinical examination revealed that lead-exposed cows showed a reduction in heart rate and paleness of mucous membranes but normal body temperature, respiratory rate, and rumen motility, Results of hematology revealed a significant reduction in total erythrocytes count, packed cell volume and hemoglobin concentration, also there was a decrease in total leukocytes count. The results revealed a decrease in serum total antioxidant capacity while there was an increase in malondialdehyde as compared to control cows.
